Gestalt Field Recording
This project explores the use of composition to represent our engagement with our environments through sensory approaches. Through design, we can evaluate the seemingly mundane variations of noise that surround us. The goal of this project is to express my reinterpretation of an ambient sound.
Field Recording
Lion dancing is a traditional form of Chinese dance typically performed during Chinese New Year to bring about good luck and fortune. The dancers mimic a lion's movement in rhythm to sounds of drums and cymbals. I use the drums as inspiration for this project.

01
Brainstorming
I first sketch down initial drafts using using shapes I thought would best capture sounds associated with the following words: striking, continuous, powerful.
02
Creating Drafts on Illustrator
Using my sketches as a foundation, I build on the ideas I generated through brainstorming, adding on more details and variation. During this phase, I explore the use of negative space and positioning between shapes to represent sound.

Finalizing Drafts
I complete a total of six drafts for my studies
04
Finished Compilation
Using elements from a number of my original 6 drafts, I create a final representation, emphasizing the themes of movement and flow within chaos. I also focus on creating a sense of depth to motivate the perspective of a change in time and space.
